Over-35s regret missed travel opportunity

30 July 2009

More than half of over-35s regret not having travelled when they were younger, according to a new study.

The survey, from building society Bradford and Bingley, asked what over-35s would change in their life, given the opportunity.

Out of the people asked, 53 per cent wanted to have travelled more and 21 per cent wished they had been able to work abroad in their job. Respondents also said that six per cent of them wished they had taken a gap year or career break.

Additionally, 37 per cent regretted not starting saving earlier in life, and 30 per cent of those surveyed had not even started saving yet. Also, 25 per cent of people wished they had started their own business.

Head of savings at Bradford and Bingley Paul Whitlock offered an optimistic message, saying: "By saving regularly or making the most of their finances by seeking professional advice there is no reason why people can't set up their own business, travel more or be prepared for that once in a lifetime opportunity that may arise."
